Stagecoach ‘Say Hi To The Band’

We’ve been waiting for this moment for quite some years, and the band have been waiting a little longer than that… But finally, Alcopop! Records heroes Stagecoach are proud to announce Say Hi To The Band – their long awaited debut album which is out on May 13th – produced by Rory Atwell (Palma Violets, The Vaccines, Yuck).

Now obviously the album will be released digitally and on rather lovely CD – but we’re also doing it on 180g vinyl, and in some super special mega deals that are detailed in the shop, featuring tees, photos and limited edition personalized MiniDisc copies of the album. Mmmmm. Yeah!

Stagecoach have always been a really special band for us, kinda symbolizing (with My First Tooth) the first acts that came by the label not as one-off release acts, but as folk who stuck with us over time building something really special. Tours with Twin Atlantic, JoFo and Elephants cemented, Coach supported Jimmy Eat World, played at every festival going (that Reading show was pretty massive) – and a couple of ballistic EPs, loads of radio, TV and a brief spell at DIY all yelled of career highlights – and it still feels like its all just begun!

Luke says: “We decided to name our album Say Hi To The Band as after 10 years of writing together we finally have a full length record to present to the world. We wanted to introduce the band to new fans but also reacquaint with older friends. The title also reminds us of the warm friendly welcome of classic albums like Meet The Beatles and The Beach Boys Love You.”

So pop over to the shop (from midday), and pick yer bundle! It will be the best decision you make today (probably). The band are on tour in a week or two, at festivals all over the summer – and can be heard playing a session with our pal John Kennedy on XFM tonight. Tune in yah.

Alcopop loves… Alcopop: (Stagecoach on 4 or 5 Magicians)

Luke from Stagecoach on … 4 or 5 Magicians (by Dave Owen)

Hold the phone…. With that warm thing in the sky coming out (I think it’s called Sun) and the beer garden becoming habitable again, we’ve been out and about talking about PoP bands with.. well .. er… other PoP bands … and the results?

More PoP goodness, past and present, than you can shake an overly large stick at! First up, we caught up with Luke, from those loveable scamps Stagecoach to talk about his love for the dearly departed 4 or 5 Magicians.

Who should I be listening to again?

4 or 5 Magicians

Why?

I remember driving home from band practice one Saturday and hearing them on the radio. They were in session on Huw Stephens. The lyrics grabbed me straight away, they were just totally honest and witty. The music was no thrills 90’s guitar rock but still rich with melody. I then delved deeper on Myspace and found they were on a relatively new, then Bristol based label called ‘Alcopop!’ I sent them our cd the following Monday thinking “well we’d sit quite nicely on a label next to those guys” We ended up becoming good friends with the band before eventually signing to Alcopop! ourselves.

You first heard what?

Forever On The Edge

Ah those memories…. Tell us about them!

We played lots of gigs with Dan Ormsby and his rotating band. There seemed to be a new line-up every time we gigged with them. Dan must be some kind of Hitler to work with (Joke, Dan!) I think my favourite memory of them was a Christmas party we did at the Windmill. Dan played the gig dressed as a Santa helper/elf. I just remember him in what was a white fur rimmed red skirt being crowd surfed around the room.

Their sweet music is for fans of:

Guided By Voices, Pavement, Nirvana, The Beatles, Superchunk, STAGECOACH??

Essential listening:

Get your mitts on …

Forever On The Edge. A stone cold Alcopop! classic released on 3” cd in true PoP style

Watch on the interwebz:

Here’s them playing with my favoured line up (minus now Virgin presenter and handsome faced Ivan Berry) at The Lexington. I almost feel emotional watching this. Lots of good memories. Preaching To The Conversed for Beatcast

 If they were a dinosaur they’d be…..

Tough. I’d go for Velociraptor because they were smart. Every lyric is considered.

Stagecoach have a shiny new album coming out very soon! ‘Say Hi To The Band’ is out on Alcopop! Records on May 13th. There will be cool pre order bundles and all that awesome jazz soon! They are also on tour in the UK throughout May – so go see ‘em!

And here’s 4 or 5 Magicians… We miss you Dan, and ever changing line-up!

Dear Brighton – you coming out Friday babez? (Till 6am)

May the 17th be with you or something. This one is GOING> TO> BE> HUGGGGGE. There will be jager-bombs a-plenty, befuddled bouncers struggling to cope with a bunch of crowd-surfing champs (you) and a line up that isn’t too bad either :-)

Here’s a free download compilation to listen to them too if you like?: https://soundcloud.com/alcopop/sets/cheer-up-bradley-alcopop-vs

Entry is free, and you don’t even need a wristband. Traditionally we get pretty busy pretty early on though – so get there early…

Cats in Hats in my Soundcloud timeline… And Stagecoach new hitz!

So far, so rad right…

So with a new Rory Brattwell produced album on the way in May, and a first single fresh in the inbox, it seemed like a nice idea to see in the good year 2013 to show off the brand new Stagecoach track ‘Threequel’ – and send it to some of our favourite bloggers around. Buuuut – y’know free downloads are fine and all, but another link to another free download does not necessarily a forward thinking music scribe excite! So we thought it would be much more fun to add some extra rad elements (cats) (hats) and (more Alcopop! Bands) – to create 49 different 5 track compilations, personalised and all featuring a different cat.

And believe me, there are some AWESOME cats….

So we’ve gone out to each of the 49 sites who were part of the ‘blog sound of 2013’ and done just that – creating 49 different compilations (all numbered) with 49 different fluffy faces showing them off. They’re all free to download should you care to, and while the hardcore amongst you will have most of the songs, the cats will fill you full of delight we promise!

So far several of the swiftest kittens have appeared on the likes of Mudkiss, Sweeping the Nation and Love Music; Love Life  (they only went out yesterday evening!) but keep an eye out for more cats in hats and music stuffs xx

And as for that new Stagecoach song, listen to it here via compilation number 42 (for The Blue Walrus)!
